Cluster for Eco-Social Innovation and Development CEDRA Split was founded in 2013 as a follow-up of several local, regional and national initiatives and projects. Registered as a civil society organization in its beginning, it was created with a mission to become a regional hub for sustainable development of individuals, organizations and communities through human resources development, strategic inter-sector projects and programs with measurable impact on local and regional community sustainable development and especially through social innovation and social entrepreneurship promotion, development and support. Founders of the Cluster are private and civil organizations and individuals. From the very beginning, the Cluster was designed as a business organization inspired by quadruple helix cluster model that involves public, private, civic and scientific-research and development-education sector. Although public stakeholders are not members of the CEDRA Split, they are involved as partners in CEDRA Split programs and activities. Hence, University of Split and CEDRA Split have signed a contract for an educational base that works with local high-school students enabling them practice and learning relevant to their future career plans. Also, CEDRA Split is a part of a dual technical secretariat of the Local Partnership for Employment of the Split Dalmatia County where it is responsible for project and program development and implementation oriented toward increase of employment and employability especially of the marginalized groups such as youth, long-term unemployed, disabled and women based on the rich experience of its founders in this sector.
CEDRA Split is today hosting Adriatic Social Observatory for social research and development and initiates national and international projects especially in the fields of education innovation, social entrepreneurship promotion, sustainable development of local communities through social innovations and sustainable all-year round active tourism. It cooperates closely with local and regional governments, local action groups, education institutions, small businesses, etc. Substantial part of its income comes from training and consultancy services as well as from EU projects preparation and implementation.
Also, CEDRA Split is one of the co-founders of the national Cluster for Eco-Social Innovation and Development CEDRA HR as a national umbrella organization for social innovation, social entrepreneurship and sustainable community development recognized at the national and international level as a support system for social entrepreneurship in Croatia. CEDRA HR along with its main founders, Association for Creative Development Slap, CEDRA Čakovec (later ACT Grupa), DEŠA Dubrovnik, DURA Dubrovnik (Dubrovnik Development Agency) and Centar tehničke kulture (Centre of Techical Culture) Rijeka, were crucial stakeholders in National Strategy for Development of Social Entrepreneurship in Croatia preparation, promotion and official acceptance with Ministry of Labor and Pension System as a leader and coordinator of this process.
