SMART START B&H: Association Bosper preparing healthy and delicious products

Long tradition of fruit and vegetables processing in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Fruit and vegetables processing has a long tradition in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Members of Section for women's agri-business which operates within Association Bosper prepare food for winter for their families and customers and sell it directly or at various fairs. When talking about vegetables and fruits, they mainly use those fruits and vegetables that were grown in their own gardens and farms (pepper, tomato, cucumber, onion, peas, apple, pear, plum and strawberry).

Most of these operations are being done manually, without special equipment and takes a lot of strength, time and energy. In order to make the food processing process easier, and thanks to the project “Entrepreneurship Start-up for business plan" that is co-financed by the Centre for Civil Society Promotion (CCSP), we are in the process of buying of a sieve with capacity of 500 kg/h.

With this equipment we want to make food processing easier, to reduce costs and to increase the efficiency of our members. Sieve will be placed in our educational centre which is being managed by Association BOSPER and will serve primarily to our current and future beneficiaries. Thanks to three replaceable colanders it will be possible to process more types of fruits and vegetables in order to make delicious jams, juices, and other traditional meals of our area.

This activity represents the continuation of our previous effort to enable easier market access to all women entrepreneurs in Bosnia and Herzegovina and help them to achieve their economic independence. Also, we want to save traditional food that is our country known for, and to introduce them to young generations and other people.

Delivery of a sieve is planned for November, and we will be ready for a new season, when we expect first jars and bottles with healthy and delicious products of our diligent members, what will be presented to you by words and photographs.
